2022 EuroLLVM: Developing an LLVM Compiler Backend for the KV3 Kalray VLIW Core

Kalray had the pleasure of participating in the 2022 EuroLLVM Conference, held in London on May 11, 2022.
This presentation by Cyril SIX, Compiler Engineer at Kalray, describes Kalray’s KV3 VLIW core (key component of the MPPA® DPU – Data Processing Unit – processor) and experience in the development of its LLVM compiler backend, including the challenges faced and a comparison between GCC and LLVM generated code on a few examples.
The cores used by Kalray’s MPPA® DPU processor all implement the same architecture of VLIW (“Very Long Instruction Word”) type. Click here to learn more about the MPPA® DPU architecture.
The European LLVM Developers’ Meeting is a bi-annual event that bring together the entire LLVM Project community. This 2022 conference was organized by the LLVM Foundation and the LLVM community. Developers and users of LLVM, Clang, and related sub-projects enjoyed attending interesting talks, impromptu discussions, and networking with the many members of the LLVM community.
