WHAT YOU ‘LL BE DOING:
As a Senior Compiler Engineer within Kalray’s Toolchain team, you will play a key role in designing, developing and optimizing the compiler technologies that enable developers to fully leverage Kalray’s innovative processor architectures.
You will contribute to the evolution of our compiler stack, from front-end integration to back-end optimizations, runtime interactions and developer tools, building upon leading open-source ecosystems such as GCC and LLVM.
Working at the intersection of hardware and software, you will collaborate closely with architecture, hardware, AI and software teams to deliver high-performance, robust and user-friendly development tools that maximize the capabilities of Kalray’s acceleration platforms.
You will help drive the technical direction of compiler-related technologies, improve the developer experience, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our full software ecosystem, from silicon capabilities to application performance.
Your main responsibilities will include:
Leading and contributing to:
- Collaborate proactively with Hardware and Software teams to design, integrate, and package compiler and toolchain components that enhance the developer experience.
- Develop, debug, test and optimize compiler, runtime and toolchain components within large-scale Linux-based environments.
- Contribute to the evolution and leverage technologies of compiler technologies based on GCC and LLVM/Clang.
- Work closely with hardware, architecture and software teams to ensure seamless integration of toolchains across multiple platforms and products.
- Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to key technical decisions related to compiler technologies and toolchain evolution.
- Review peer code, promote maintainability and contribute to high engineering standards and software quality across the project.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to support their growth and development.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement and reliability of Kalray’s compiler and toolchain ecosystem.
- Contribute to open-source ecosystems and stay up to date with advancements in compiler technologies, software development practices and processor architecture.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to continuously improve the developer experience and maximize the capabilities of Kalray’s processor architectures.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Technical skills:
- Proven experience with at least one major compiler infrastructure — GCC and the GNU toolchain and/or LLVM/Clang.
- Significant experience developing compilers, toolchains or low-level system software.
- Strong understanding of compiler internals, including code generation, optimization techniques, runtimes and toolchain architectures.
- Strong programming skills in C and/or C++ within Linux-based development environments.
- Solid knowledge of Linux systems and software development in Linux environments.
- Familiarity with processor architectures and low-level software concepts.
- Excellent debugging, performance analysis and problem-solving skills.
Nice to have:
- Experience with cross-compilation environments and embedded or heterogeneous computing platforms.
- Experience contributing to open-source compiler projects or ecosystems.
- Experience with performance optimization and benchmarking of compiler-generated code.
Profile:
- MSc or Engineering degree (BAC+5) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in compiler development, toolchain engineering or low-level software development.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within cross-functional teams.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Strong ownership mindset and autonomy, with the ability to drive complex technical topics from design to implementation.
- Rigorous approach to software quality, maintainability and engineering best practices.
- Passion for compiler technologies, open-source software and continuous learning.
- Comfortable working in an international, fast-evolving deep-tech environment.
